How to Spring Clean Your Beauty Products

Spring cleaning isn't just about vacuuming an entire year's worth of breadcrumbs from your car or finally finding out what's been hiding under your couch cushions. It's also a time to finally sort out the clutter that's accumulated into a precarious pyramid in your bathroom. (How did we even end up with four open, half-used bottles of shampoo in the shower in the first place?)

To make sure your bathroom no longer resembles a beauty-product-filled junkyard and more like, you know, a bathroom, try these simple steps to make sorting out the mess a little more manageable.
1 Give your beauty products a check-up.

You've probably been told that, like food, beauty products have a shelf life. But because we're not eating them, sometimes we forget. And it's so hard to part with that blue mascara you impulse-bought two years ago—what if you'll actually need it someday?


Seriously through, the key to decluttering any room is throwing out what you realistically don't need. And if you've only worn that blue mascara once in the entire time you've had it, you can probably live without it.

2 Combine products into one container. 

Well hello, four open, half-used bottles of shampoo. The time has come to combine them into one bottle. That way you don't have to choose between moisturizing, volume-building, and frizz-fighting.


This tip can also work with products like moisturizers or body washes. You just have to be careful to avoid combining products with ingredients that don't react well with each other, like retinol and alpha hydroxy acids.

3 Use a Tic Tac container to store bobby pins.

Isn't it annoying how easy it is to go from having 100 bobby pins to having none? Even more annoying is when they pop up in random spots all over your house (the dishwasher? Seriously?) when you don't need them.


Instead of tossing your empty Tic Tac containers into the recycling bin, try repurposing them into an easy place to store your bobby pins. To add extra prettiness, decorate them with Washi Tape with blogger Laura Trevey's easy instructions.
